Events
Greetings, everyone!
2011 is going to be an exciting year. Our theme for the convention is a Sports Festival, so we're looking to set up some cool events that fit that style of theme, in addition to our usual variety of crazy excitement. We hope you enjoy what we come up with.
Over the next several months, we will update this section with a comprehensive list of the events we plan on hosting, as well as sign up sheets for specific events and detailed information for panels. For now, you get a preview. Yeah, we're workin' on it. But you know our word is good, baby.
If you want to submit a panel, you can go to our Panel Submission form. A good chunk of our programming comes from our attendees, and a lot of you guys are mad geniuses. If you have any brilliant ideas, don't hesitate.
And of course, if you have any questions about submitting a panel, events we may be running, or just want to comment on something, please feel free to e-mail us at Activities@animenebraskon.com. We take feedback very seriously, and want to make NebrasKon something special. Your comments help.
Here is a non-comprehensive list of events that are presently being planned for the 2011 year. A reminder : We usually host somewhere to the tune of 150 events over the course of NebrasKon. Just because it isn't listed here doesn't mean it isn't happening. You can assume, for instance, that we'll have an awesome Cosplay Contest. You can also rightly assume that there will be a dance. Our illustrious Guests of Honor will be hosting several panels as well. If you're concerned about whether something is happening or not, ask, and you shall know.
Another brief disclaimer : This list currently does not touch upon Video Gaming or Tabletop Gaming. There will be tournaments and events in these areas as well.
Formal Ball
Last year our 1st official Formal Ball went over pretty well. We will be posting a fancy dress code, but don't get too worked up; we won't be super restrictive on dress, we just want to be classy. Consider yourself formally invited.
So you don't miss out, we do have a hard time set for this. It's Friday evening, at 8 PM. If you arrive an hour earlier, there will be a Dance Instructional, for your waltzes and tangos and foxtrots and whatnot. So if you are concerned about how you'll look on the dance floor, don't. We've got you covered, and we promise to not treat you like an idiot. No one likes that.
Organ Trail Live
It's the Oregon Trail! Wait, there's a letter missing...
The Organ Trail is a zombie-themed Oregon Trail. We'll be playing it live. With the audience making all the decisions. This'll end well.
Tales of Con Horror
We all know it. Sometimes some crazy things happen at cons. Our Guests will share some of their wilder experiences. (Parental Advisory)
Rock Paper Scissors Tournament
Rock, Paper, Scissors is serious business. So serious, in fact, that we're dedicating TWO days to this. The first day for qualifiers, the second day for an epic production that gives the finest art of interpersonal resolution the serious treatment it deserves.
Seriously.
Otaku Fitness
Lathan is doing a ton of panels this year. Probably at least ten hours worth. This is one of them. Lathan will instruct in how to maintain an otaku lifestyle while still being fit. Knowing him, it'll probably be hilarious. And if you don't know Lathan...you should. He's a cool dude. ;)
Talent Show!
Never underestimate the power of people to surprise you. Maybe even delight you. We open the stage up, so you can share with the class what makes you special. There will be a sign up, more details pending at this description. Just keep it clean, kids. You don't want to earn a detention from the Headmaster.
Choose Your Own Adventure
Rob Lewis will be hosting another one of his brilliant ideas; a convention-style Choose Your Own Adventure game. Still in development, but it should be absolutely hilarious.
Orientation Events
We received some feedback over the last year or so that some folks new to the convention feel a little out of place, due to our culture filled with the in jokes and people already knowing each other. To combat this obvious evil, we are setting up some basic 'orientation' sessions so if you're new to NebrasKon, we'll show you around, give you an idea of what events should be fun and would fit your interests, introduce you to some of the staff and help you make some friends. Because we're serious about wanting NebrasKon to be a place that everyone is welcome.
Occult and Mysticism in Anime
A long time favorite, Dani and Kat talk about where some of the fascinating imagery and interesting ideas in your favorite anime come from. Educational and entertaining!
Karaoke
Sing the night away! Will be present both Friday and Saturday nights.
Duct Tape and You
Through careful scientific experimentation, we have arrived at a conclusion. Attendees + Duct Tape = Some very strange things. Apparently new life spawns in the form of duct tape amoebas. If you don't know what I'm talking about, you will see, come Sunday.
More proof that duct tape can fix ANYTHING.
Martial Arts and Special Effects in Film and Television
...the title pretty much says it all. If you're interested in either, some of our guys show you how the pros accomplish some amazing things, and how some amateurs can do the same.
The Ethics of Anime
Deep discussion on those burning questions you might have.
Mystery Anime Theater 3000
Yeah. It's a tradition. It's probably not even OUR tradition. But we're doing it. Because it's fun. Stay up late and watch some bad anime.
---
Again, this is only a short list. Out of usually 150. There will be a lot to do. Some old, some new. We're always trying new things, and we always want to hear about new ideas. More events, rules for competitions, and other such things will be posted as soon as we have them ready. Check back here every so often. There will be tons to do, and we really believe you will have a blast at our convention. We'll certainly do everything in our power to make sure you have a great time.
Hope to see you at NebrasKon!
